How it works

Three steps, no configuration

  1. 1

    Install the extension

Add Link Alpha to Chrome in one click. No account, no setup — the icon appears in your toolbar.

  2. 2

    Scan the page

Open any page and click Start scan. Link Alpha extracts every link and checks each one, with live progress.

  3. 3

    Review and export

Filter and sort the results, locate a link on the page, then export the report as CSV or JSON.

Features

Everything you need for a quick, honest link audit

Scan the current page

Link Alpha extracts every <a href> link on the page you're viewing and checks each destination, with live counts as the scan runs.

Locate links on the page

Click Locate on any result to jump straight to that link and highlight it in place — no manual hunting through the page.

Scan an entire site, on your terms

Click "Scan entire site" to crawl up to 25 same-origin pages in one pass, with a real Chrome permission prompt scoped to that one site. Capped at 10 site-scans a day.

How full-site scanning works →

Export clean reports

Export every result as CSV or JSON, with your last 10 scans saved locally so you can revisit, delete, or clear them without rescanning.

Who it's for

Built for the people who actually check links

Website owners

Spot-check your own pages after a redesign, migration, or content cleanup — before a broken link becomes a support ticket.

Content editors

Check a page's references before you hit publish, without needing to understand HTTP status codes or ask a developer.

Developers

Validate links during a staging review and export JSON for a script or a ticket, instead of clicking through every link by hand.

SEO practitioners

Audit a page before or after publishing and keep an exportable record — with redirects reported separately from confirmed errors.

Honest limits

What Link Alpha can't tell you — and why

Browser security restrictions mean no extension can give a perfect answer for every link. Link Alpha separates what it actually confirmed from what it couldn't, instead of guessing.

  • Browsers restrict what a cross-origin request can reveal about its response — when that happens, Link Alpha reports Inconclusive, never Broken. It's not guessing.
  • Some sites rate-limit or block automated checks, or require a login. Those links are also reported as Inconclusive, not treated as evidence of a problem.
  • A redirect is reported as Redirect, not Broken — it's a different outcome and usually not something to fix.
  • Full-site scanning checks up to 25 same-origin pages per crawl, capped at 10 site-scans a day. It does not read robots.txt or a sitemap, and it won't follow links to a different domain.
  • Link Alpha checks <a href> links only — not images, scripts, stylesheets, or in-page anchors (#fragments) pointing at missing elements.
  • Link Alpha does not bypass CAPTCHAs, logins, or other bot-detection on the sites it checks.
FAQ

Common questions

Is Link Alpha free?

Yes. The free tier includes 40 scans a day with the full feature set — status checking, Locate, both export formats, and scan history. An optional Pro upgrade ($3.99/month, $24.99/year, or $39 one-time) removes the daily scan cap; nothing else changes.

Does Link Alpha scan my whole website automatically?

No. By default it scans the page you're currently viewing. Scanning an entire site is a separate, explicit action — you click "Scan entire site" and grant a permission prompt for that one site — and it's capped at 25 pages per crawl.

Does a redirect count as a broken link?

No. Link Alpha reports redirects as their own category, separate from confirmed broken links, because a working redirect usually isn't something that needs fixing.

Why do some links show as "Inconclusive" instead of a clear pass or fail?

Browsers can't always tell an extension the real status of a cross-origin request — that's a browser security restriction, not a Link Alpha bug. Timeouts, rate-limiting, and login walls produce the same honest "can't confirm" result rather than a guess.

Where is my scan data stored?

On your own device, in Chrome's local extension storage. Link Alpha has no server and doesn't send your scan results anywhere. See the privacy policy for the complete list of what's stored.

Does Link Alpha fix broken links automatically?

No. It finds and reports them — fixing the destination or the link itself is still up to you.
